Hello Dotbite

Things change, and so do we. What started in the kitchen of a student flat is now an aspiring business with a team of eleven young, innovative, and motivated individuals (and we’re still looking for reinforcements, apply now). timebite gave us the chance to grow as people, entrepreneurs, and employers, but it’s not the only center of our attention anymore. Our spectrum has broadened a lot in the last few years. The name change represents just that. Hello Dotbite!

Broadening the spectrum

timebite has grown big over the years. We have more than 13,000 registered users in 50 universities. Over half a million tracked hours in 20,000 courses (and counting!) prove the platform’s continuously high demand. Our satisfied B2B clients also show that timebite is an excellent tool for businesses in the war for talent.

What began with timebite quickly evolved into the development of Quinn, the workload, and ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System; a credit system for university courses) survey app we developed together with the TU Wien. One of the reasons why the cooperation came to fruition was our emphasis on data protection for timebite. We’ve always placed a high value on keeping our user’s data private, which would benefit us in the future.

As the team grew, we evolved into a coding agency and also created website projects like the lovely webshop for our friends from meshit.


The pandemic hit us hard. Our business model built heavily on EduTech, and all the universities just closed their doors. ECTS evaluation for universities took a backseat as they struggled to digitalize their courses, while students didn’t need learning tips for canceled courses and exams.

What to do in a time like this?

We built a nonprofit app for iOS and Android to help other people struggling during this time: Hilfma. With Hilfma, people in need can ask for help, and people wanting to help can find ways to do so. Additionally, local businesses reach people directly in their vicinity.

The app was created in just two weeks and earned us no money but plenty of media attention and a nomination as one of the best apps in Austria for the futurezone award, which we hope to win this fall.

New Horizons

This attention meant the world to us. It put us on the map for one of the most exciting projects a young coding agency could ask: the Corona self-testing kits from LEAD Horizon.

Our attention to detail, our aim for easy usability, and the high value we place on data protection we showed in our previous work made us the perfect partner for LEAD Horizon’s ambitious project. It is an impressive task of a size we haven’t done before, but our focus on scalability and user experience has prepared us well.

As of now, 100,000 people use our software per day. In 35 countries in Europe and even more all over the world.

A project this large and more exciting projects in the pipeline demand that we put ourselves out there. We have a name now.

Connecting the dots

So why Dotbite? The “bite” part is an obvious throwback to our first project timebite. The “dot” just sounds very internet.

Connecting the dots is what we do every day. It describes our holistic approach to work: The connections between idea and outcome. Between functionality and usability. Between talent and quality. Between humans.

What hasn’t changed is us. We use a new name, but we are still the same young collective of passionate software engineers, creative designers, digital natives, and innovative thinkers we used to be.
