Dotbite

A concept that says what you are building

From a rough idea to a written concept.

We take ideas that live in someone's head and turn them into a concept everyone can read, argue with and agree on. What gets built, who it is for, and what stays out of the first version. Based in Vienna, working with clients across Europe.

qondition, upgr8 and Matara started as a concept with us.

Concept Development in Vienna.

Most projects that go wrong were never written down properly. Everyone left the kickoff agreeing, and it turned out they agreed on different things. The cost of that shows up months later, as rework nobody planned for.

A concept phase is short and cheap and prevents most of it. We work through the idea with you until it can be written down. Who the users are and what they are trying to get done. What the product does in its first version. What deliberately stays out, which is usually the most valuable part of the document. Where the technical risks sit, and what would have to be true for the thing to work.

What you get is a written concept and a scope that a developer can price and a stakeholder can approve. If we think the idea has a problem, this is where we say so, while changing your mind still costs nothing.

From here the path splits. Business modeling if the open questions are commercial, requirements engineering if you need a buildable spec, prototyping if they are about the interface.

What you get with Dotbite in the concept phase

  • A written concept. Something your whole team can read and challenge.
  • A scope with edges. What is in the first version, and what is explicitly out.
  • Technical risks named early. The parts that could break the plan, flagged now.
  • A number you can plan with. A scope developers can actually price.
  • The commercial side too. How it earns, when that question is open.
  • A route into the build. The concept feeds straight into the spec.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a concept phase cost?
It is a defined piece of work with a fixed price, and small relative to the build it precedes. At Dotbite we agree the scope and the deliverable upfront, so you know what you get and what it costs before starting.
How long does it take?
Usually one to three weeks, depending on how many stakeholders are involved and how much is still open. Most of the time goes into the workshops and the questions that surface there, rather than into writing the document.
What do we get at the end?
A written concept covering who the users are, what the product does in its first version, what stays out, and where the technical risks sit. It is specific enough that a developer can price it and a stakeholder can approve it.
Do we need this if we already know what we want?
Often the value is finding out that people in the room know different things. Most projects that go wrong were never written down properly, and everyone left the kickoff agreeing on something slightly different. A short phase surfaces that while changing your mind is still free.
Can we have the concept built somewhere else?
Yes. The document is yours and written to be handed to any competent team. Most clients continue with us because the people who scoped it are the ones who build it, though nothing in the concept depends on that.
