Dotbite

An MVP that answers your riskiest question

The smallest version that tells you the truth.

We build first versions for founders and companies launching something new. Small enough to ship in weeks, real enough that users behave normally with it, and built so the code survives if the idea works. Based in Vienna, working with clients across Europe.

upgr8, Boritea and qondition launched with us.

MVP Development in Vienna.

The point of an MVP is to buy information. Every feature you add before launch is budget spent on an assumption nobody has tested yet. So the first question we ask is which assumption would hurt most if it turned out to be wrong, and then we build the smallest thing that answers it.

That usually means cutting more than feels comfortable. The version that ships handles the core path properly and leaves the rest as a manual step, an email, or a spreadsheet behind the scenes. Users will tell you soon enough which of those needs automating.

We build it as software you can keep. Fixed scope, senior developers, and an architecture that can carry features rather than one that has to be thrown away the moment the idea works. The MVPs we build are the same codebases we later grow into full products.

Most first versions we build are web based, and some belong on a phone from day one, which is app development. If the concept is still moving, prototyping answers the cheaper questions first. If you want help shaping the business around it, see business modeling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an MVP cost?
Less than a full build, because the point is to answer one question rather than cover everything. At Dotbite we define that question with you, scope the smallest version that answers it, and quote a fixed price. You know the number before anything gets built.
How long does an MVP take?
Usually four to twelve weeks, depending on how much has to work before real users can try it. We cut aggressively to get there, because every week before launch is a week without feedback from anyone outside the room.
What belongs in an MVP and what can wait?
The core path that answers your riskiest assumption belongs in. Almost everything else can wait, including admin screens, edge cases and settings. Manual work behind the scenes is fine at this stage, because users will show you soon enough what actually needs automating.
Can we build on the MVP afterwards?
Yes, and we build it that way from the start. The architecture carries features rather than being thrown away once the idea works. The MVPs we build are the same codebases we later grow into full products.
How do we know whether the MVP worked?
We agree what success looks like before launch, usually a number around signups, usage or retention. Without that, everyone reads the same result differently afterwards. The point of the whole exercise is a clear answer on whether to continue.
