Challenges
WordPress is a No-Go
The biggest technical challenge in this project was to develop a modular system that would be easy for the client to use and modify while maintaining a clear structure and consistency. This required a delicate balance between flexibility and robustness, ensuring that the system could adapt to various needs without compromising on stability or performance.
The client had previously had negative experiences with WordPress and therefore sought an alternative solution that would address their specific requirements more effectively. Their dissatisfaction with WordPress stemmed from issues such as complexity, security vulnerabilities, and limitations in customization. Thus, it was imperative for us to create a system that overcame these shortcomings, offering a more secure, user-friendly, and customizable platform.
Throughout the development process, there were definitely moments when concerns arose, particularly due to the very tight schedule. The project timeline was stringent, leaving little room for unforeseen problems or delays. This added a significant layer of pressure and increased the risk associated with the project. Any technical challenge or unexpected complication could have potentially jeopardized the entire project, leading to delays or suboptimal outcomes.
Objectives
Statamic it is
Since WordPress was not an alternative, we chose Statamic because this content management system (CMS) is perfect for enabling clearly defined modularity. Also, we chose Statamic, because it's base on Laravel, which is one of our most favorite Frameworks.
With Statamic, we were able to create a flexible and user-friendly system that met the client's requirements and gave them control over the content without compromising the structure and quality of the overall system.
Since time-pressure was a real thing here, we focused on keeping product communication as lean as possible, we handled all communication and planning activities via Figma - our go-to design tool.
This approach proved to be extremely productive as it minimized tool overhead and kept everyone on the same page. By using Figma, we were able to share and edit design drafts, feedback and iterations in real time, which significantly accelerated the development process and made collaboration seamless.
Through careful planning, effective communication and quick problem-solving behavior, we managed to overcome these difficulties and successfully complete the project.
Connecting the dots
Through high productivity & pace and while giving our customer the tool he needed, we were able to complete this project successfully within 3 weeks.
Our customer is now able to keep margins to himself, instead of giving it to big players like Booking or Airbnb. Besides that, he is finally able to build his own customer base, keep in contact with them and build a loyalty program - offering discount and special deals.
Due to Statamic, the CMS we used for this project (and many future ones), we were able to give our customer exactly that what he was hoping for - high flexibility and ability to change content of the platform on his own.
Exactly what we had imagined
One particularly positive moment we remember from this project was the client's initial feedback on our draft design. The client commented that the design was "exactly what they had imagined".
This immediate positive response was not only a validation of our work and understanding of the client's needs, but also a great motivational boost for the whole team. It showed that our efforts and close dialogue with the customer had borne fruit and that we were on the right track to meet their expectations.
Creating trust for customer loyalty
We're particularly proud of the fact that we were able to convince the managing director, who is also the client's father, to take an "About Us" picture. This was no easy task, as he was originally not interested in presenting himself in this way.
By arguing how important transparency and creating trust are for customer loyalty, we were finally able to change his mind. This success shows that we can not only overcome technical challenges, but are also able to do important interpersonal and business persuasion work.
What a smooth ride
The collaboration with Dotbite was uncomplicated & very direct without a lot of back and forth. The only thing we focussed on was the output & we are very proud of that!
