Software in healthcare has different requirements than an online shop. The data is among the most sensitive there is. Many parties work in the same process, from the lab to the hotline. And the people using it are often not the ones who sit at a computer all day.
For Darmgesundheit Wien we built the platform behind Vienna's colorectal cancer screening. Around 540,000 Viennese aged 45 to 75 are invited to a free home test. The platform carries everything from the invitation to the follow-up colonoscopy, connects the postal service, the lab and the customer service at 1450, and works without a computer too, with sign-up by phone and results by letter. It went live on 9 June 2026, the day the programme started.
Before that we developed the web app behind Alles gurgelt! for LEAD Horizon, the PCR self-tests for at home. Up to 100,000 people a day used it. Out of that work came Boritea, a white-label platform for labs with AI-based identity verification that cuts admin work and gives labs a direct channel to their patients.
What we learned there goes into every project. Data protection and security are a base requirement from the architecture onwards. Accessibility and an offline path are part of the concept when the audience is broad. And before a launch with large numbers of users come load tests. After launch we stay on with ongoing support and regular releases. Where AI is involved, we build it with the same care, more on that in our AI development.
